Michelle Kanters is a visual artist who uses her work as a conversation starter to question the foundations of our reality and to reconsider our place in nature. In her work, she creates an alternative anatomy of the world, a surreal landscape in which the logic of the ordinary is disrupted.
From the dream images of her childhood on the farm, a world of installations emerges. Here, where sculptural and natural elements merge, the power dynamics between human, animal, and plant are transformed.
Ceramics, textiles, and other sculptural methods generate new meanings, blurring the boundary between nature and culture. Michelle plays with the idea of domesticated nature—bringing inside what we try to control outside—by creating (utilitarian) objects that reinterpret nature in a strange yet intimate way.
