ABOUT

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the natural environment surrounding me, likely due to my upbringing on a farm near a forest in The Netherlands. Drawing from these childhood experiences, I often explore the great divide between humans and their surrounding natural environment using film and performative activities, in order to develop stories. I translate these findings into tangible forms, such as sculptures; either digital or analogue ceramic ones. All of these elements merged together often lead my practice into installations, where I hope to create awareness and provoke reflection on our role in shaping and approaching the natural world.

These installations create a speculative world where plants and trees for example, have a significant role alongside humans within the hierarchy of the world. Where humans assume that plants and trees lack consciousness and communicative abilities, my practice aims to challenge this belief. I am always exploring new ways of communicating with these entities, to gradually bring humans and their natural environment closer together. At the same time, it allows me to slowly return home to that phase of my childhood, being embedded in nature.
